Communities In Schools of Elkhart and LaGrange Counties: (CIS)

            Cause:

CIS is dedicated to using community resources to help children successfully stay in school, and prepare for life.

            Reason:

In 2003 Carl met Joe Guerrero (Executive Director of Elkhart County CIS).  Carl and Joe pooled their resources to begin developing programs that expose at-risk teens and gang members to adventure trips and experiences which will impact their lives.  During these trips the teens are forced to face personal challenges, overcome fears, understand the importance of preparation, teamwork, education, and discipline.  The teens are also encouraged to find their personal skills and talents and to begin working with them.  Carl will be using the K2 expedition to help develop his current involvement in encouraging and developing these teens.

            Contribution Method:

Profits from the film will be donated to CIS of Elkhart and LaGrange Counties to develop adventure trips for their teens.  CIS will gain awareness through the climb's media exposure, Carl's speaking engagements, and the film.

Locks of Love: (LOL)

            Cause:

Provide hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

            Reason:

While recovering from an accident and feeling sorry for himself, Carl surfed across the website for Locks of Love in 2004. His heart went out to the children who have lost their hair to other life events.  Carl decided his life was not so bad, and that no matter how bad it was, he could still grow his hair out.  So he dedicated to growing it out to 12".

            Contribution Method:

Carl has been growing his hair out for over a year and a half to donate to Locks of Love.

Upon returning from K2 he will either donate this hair directly to LOL along with hair donations from others inspired by his story.  His hair will more than likely be the only donated hair in the world to have been on K2!
